Job Summary

 

The Regional Field Director (RFD) is responsible for directing and executing field operations across a designated geographic region. This role involves managing a team of Field Managers, developing and implementing regional outreach and recruitment strategies and ensuring proper training and staffing levels. The RFDs will ensure that regional goals align with the broader campaign objectives, utilizing best practices, maintaining accurate reporting, and upholding the highest quality control standards. This individual will be a skilled leader who thrives in a fast-paced work environment, learns quickly, solves problems, thinks on their feet with superior communication skills, has experience working with people from diverse backgrounds, and knows how to build an organizational structure that supports growth, success and efficiency. The Regional Field Directors report directly to the VP of Field Operations.

Position Details and Responsibilities

  • Work with senior leadership to design program plans and systems to successfully perform contracts
  • Direct and implement campaigns and program plans for assigned clients and contracts which could include petition signature collection, door to door canvassing, phone/text banks, training, research, community organizing, events, and other campaign and organizational support services.
  • Recruit, develop, and manage Field Managers. Ensure proper staffing and training for all field staff and ensure all levels of staff are adequately supported.
  • Provide coaching, performance feedback and development opportunities for field staff.
  • Implement region-specific field plans and voter outreach strategies and monitor progress towards field goals.
  • Utilize data-driven tools (e.g. VAN/MiniVAN, eQual, predictive dialers and peer to peer texting platforms, and reporting tools) to guide decisions, track outcomes, and inform decisions.
  • Ensure ongoing evaluation of efficiency, effectiveness, and consistency in quality of programs and course correct as needed.
  • Cultivate relationships with community leaders, partner organizations and campaigns, and represent Mobilize Michigan in meetings or events as needed.
  • Coordinate events, canvasses, phone/text banks and other campaign activities as needed. 
  • Ensure adherence to organizational campaign policies and legal compliance.
  • Manages day-to-day office operations, ensuring a clean, organized, and productive environment for field staff.
  • Maintains strong relationships with landlords, property managers, and key vendors to ensure timely communication and issue resolution.
  • Coordinates office maintenance, supply ordering, and vendor services to support staff needs and operational efficiency.
  • Serves as point of contact for office-related concerns, including facility repairs, utility coordination, and lease compliance.
  • Ensures office systems and equipment are functional and well-maintained, addressing logistical needs as they arise. Working closely with VP of Business Operations to solve issues and come up with solutions.

Qualifications

  • Work Experience & Education Level 

Minimum of 2 cycles in a management role in campaign or advocacy field programs including leading large scale field campaigns and programs within tight deadlines. The ideal candidate will have a community organizing and progressive advocacy background and and extensive experience in field operations including hiring, onboarding, training, reporting and executing field plans. Must have a high level of understanding of data informed programming, field tools, tracking, data analysis, and evaluation. Bachelor's degree in relevant field or commensurate level of experience required.

An overall orientation towards collaboration is crucial -- a big part of this job will  be working with others to accomplish goals alongside campaigns and their partners.  
    • Culturally competent with experience working with BIPOC, LGBTQ, and marginalized communities with self-awareness and cultural intelligence to navigate  one’s presence based on power dynamics. Understanding of how power, privilege, and  oppression manifest at different levels, with a personal commitment to learning and growth  around social justice ideals and equity. 
    • Aligned with Mobilize Michigan work practices and proven ability to work independently and self-motivated  in a work-from-home or hybrid office model. Experience and ability to communicate via Zoom for  meetings and trainings. 
    • Reliable access to  transportation for necessary travel within Michigan, especially to metro Detroit and Grand Rapids offices and flexibility in working irregular hours. 
  • Languages & Proficiency 

Any language proficiency especially Spanish a plus but not required

  • Physical Demands

Ability to stand for extended periods, and physical mobility for door to door and other canvass operations, and lift up to 20 pounds. Reasonable accommodations will be considered.

Additional Job Specifications

 
  • Job Classification: Full- time, exempt, at-will
  • Compensation: $70,000 - $85,000 annually depending on experience.
  • Work Schedule: Primarily weekdays with some evenings and weekends. [Daily schedule is flexible and will be determined by needs of ongoing projects]
  • Location: Hybrid: On-site & Virtual, Grand Rapids, West-side of MI
